It's shot on slide film (Fujichrome Velvia 50) so what you're seeing is the edge of the slide as it's been scanned in. It's also why the colours are so vibrant, as this particular film gives highly saturated colours. Not that you probably wanted to know, but there you go. Like most Whistler trails, it has to be armoured up to survive the onslaught of riders it sees. Even though this is a double-black rated trail, it still sees a lot of traffic over the summer, and gets completely ripped apart when it's wet - like in the Garb DH this year...
